All this talk brings about myths and misconceptions and oftentimes unhealthy expectations. This brings us
to the subject of just what is considered healthy weight loss for everyone.
The question of what is healthy weight for everyone can be a tough one indeed. Some feel that shedding 10
pounds per week is perfect, while others tout the merits of losing only a pound or so per week. Is there truly a
PERFECT answer for everyone?
The fact is…probably not. You see, your body is a delicate but durable system. Once it gets used to a certain
way of doing things, it can be hard to change it. Therefore, losing weight can be an incredibly difficult struggle
for many. They may diet intensely and hit the gym every single day and still only lose a pound or so per week.
Conversely, someone else may simply cut out soda from their diet and lose 5 pounds in the first week alone. This
can be INCREDIBLY frustrating to someone who is sincerely trying to lost excess fat and get in shape. The trick is
not to pay attention to anyone else but yourself…it is YOUR body that you need to get to know…no one else’s.
The main thing that helps determine healthy weight loss for everyone is actually metabolism. Your metabolism
refers to how your body utilizes energy. As you may know, in terms of food, energy is measured in calories. People
with a high metabolism will easily burn the calories they eat even if they are not incredibly active.
These people are usually relatively thin and it seems as if they can eat whatever they want and never gain
weight. If they DO gain weight, usually with age, a slight change in diet and an increase in activity can product
dramatic results. Someone with a high metabolism might lose 5-6 pounds in their first week of dieting and even more
and this would still be considered healthy.
Those with a low metabolism experience the opposite. To them, it might seem like everything they eat adds excess
weight and when they diet, it is a huge struggle just to get rid of a pound or two.
They may have to make drastic changes in their diet and follow a prescribed exercise routing for months before
the experience any significant results.
So again, to answer the question of what is healthy weight loss for everyone, it is important to get to know your
body. Know how your body reacts to your eating habits and how it responds to exercise.
Making sure to stay within the guidelines of what you feel is “normal” is probably the best advice for most when
entering into a weight loss plan. If your experience is more drastic than assumed, make sure to check with
your physician. After all, your doctor Is a great resource for helping to understand what is healthy weight loss
for everyone.
