5 Tips to help you Establish Healthy Eating Habits Today
Changing one’s diet to include healthy eating habits can be one of the toughest things we ever do in life.
You see, they are called HABITS for a reason. Chances are, the way you eat today reflects how you ate
growing up.
What your parents fed you is what you are used to, and you pass that on to your kids, etcetera. It usually
takes one person to proactively break the mold in order to establish new and healthy eating habits.

Below are 5 tips to help you establish healthy eating habits today to keep you healthy and help control your
weight.
1. Start by assessing your diet-It is important to take a good luck at what you DO eat in order to make any real
changes. The best rule of thumb is to write down EXACTLY what you eat each and every day.
Keep a notebook with you and write down your meals as you eat them. Include EVERYTHING on your plate or
that goes into your mouth. Doing this for a few weeks will show you exactly what you are putting into your body and
will allow you to visually see where the flaws in your diet are.
2. Make a list of nutritious foods you enjoy-This is a great way for you to start creating meals that are healthy.
Make lists of fruits, vegetables, meats, chicken, and fish that you love to eat.
Then, simply mix and match for every meal to start healthy eating habits in a very easy to follow way. You’ll
probably be surprised as to how many healthy foods you actually enjoy.
3. Focus on changing one thing about your diet weekly-One reason that people fail to follow healthy eating habits
is that they try to do everything all at once. Focusing on one thing at a time is a much more realistic approach.
Let’s say you drink two cups of coffee every morning with sugar.
Try switching to green tea with no sugar. Then, in a week, instead of drinking a soda with lunch everyday,
try just a bottle of water. Adopting this simple one step at a time approach will help you reach your goal of
establishing healthy eating habits much more quickly.
4. Whatever you do, DON’T STARVE YOURSELF!-Some confuse healthy eating habits with simply eating LESS. While
limiting overall caloric intake can be a part of establishing healthy eating habits, starving yourself will almost
always do more harm than good. For one thing, your body needs a certain amount of calories to function
properly.
For another, when you starve yourself, your body assumes that it is not going to receive calories on a
regular basis so it begins to store whatever it does get. This leads many to actually gain weight once they start
eating again.
5. Mix it up-It is so much easier to stick to healthy eating habits when you make your meals exciting.Mix up the
foods you eat on a regular basis versus just choosing the same ones over and over again. Sure, eating a salad can
be healthy, but eating ONLY salad is boring.
Not only will you likely not get the overall nutrition you need, you are not likely to stay on such
a regimented and boring eating plan for long.
Adopting healthy eating habits does not need to be a long and arduous process. Simply follow the short list above,
take it slow, and be consistent and soon, you will reach your goal of eating healthy from now on.
