Fitness After 40-What you Need to Know to Get Healthy and Stay that Way!
Life is a funny thing. As we get older, we learn so much…we become wise to the ways of the world, often make more
money, and…we get fat! It’s true, once most of hit 30 it’s all downhill, or should I say uphill when looking at the
numbers on the scale!

solid plan of action and more importantly, FOLLOW IT!
Here are some tips to help you achieve and maintain fitness after 40:
1. Go see the doctor-In order to start any fitness plan, it is a wise idea to go get a complete physical from your
family doctor. Making sure there is nothing to prevent you from starting a strenuous exercise program is the best
way to get off on the right foot.Establishing your baseline readings of blood pressure, cholesterol, and body
weight will allow you to better track your progress as you move through your fitness after 40 regimen.
2. Develop a fitness plan that is right for you-Some people get up at 5am and workout for 90 minutes
before they even have breakfast and go to work…but this doesn’t work for everyone.It is important that you develop
a fitness plan that makes sense and works with your schedule. If your program is incredibly difficult to stick to
considering your schedule, you will have to change it if you want to be successful.
3. Don’t try to do everything all at once-It is tough to achieve fitness after 40 if you want to try to
make many changes all at once. At this stage in one’s life, there are MANY habits we have developed, many of them
probably bad.It is tough to just make a 180 degree change and expect to stick to it from then on. This is why so
many diet and exercise plans fail. Instead, make little changes on a weekly basis and stick to them. Over time, you

4. Remember, you are not a little kid any longer-One of the biggest mistakes that people who want to
achieve fitness after 40 make is to have unrealistic expectations of what they can still physically do at their age
and fitness level.Sure, after you get into incredible shape, you may have FEW limitations, but if you have just
started your program, remember, you are no longer a kid! Don’t try to knock out 15 pullups or 50 pushups right off
the bat! Your body will certainly tell you the next day if you forget in the meantime…
5. Don’t listen to the naysayers!-The fact is, many people will jeer at those who try to achieve fitness
after 40. As they say, misery loves company so it may be tough for your to find workout partners your age
especially if they have adopted the more reserved and sedentary lifestyle that many older than 40 do.Pay them no
mind. Go out there and prove them wrong and get into the best shape of your life no matter WHO says you can’t do it
or that you are just trying to act like a kid again. So what?
